The First Off Season: What Changes When Heights Pool Stays Open Past Labor Day
From September 8 to December 13, the pool at 250 Viesca St keeps its gates open, and the schedule looks different from summer.

This year Heights Pool did something it hasn't done before: it stayed open past Labor Day. The regular season ran May 21 through September 7, and on September 8 the 2026 Off Season began. It runs through Sunday, December 13. If you've been a member for years, the pool you know in July is the same pool, but the rhythm of the week is different, and a little planning makes the fall visits better.
The hours, month by month
Off Season hours are shorter on weekdays and longer on weekends than a typical summer day. Here's the schedule for the rest of the season.
- October: closed Mondays, open Tuesday through Thursday from 3 to 8:30 PM, and Friday through Sunday from noon to 9 PM.
- November: closed Monday and Tuesday, open Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 8:30 PM, and Friday through Sunday from noon to 9 PM.
- December, through the 13th: closed Monday through Thursday, open Friday through Sunday from noon to 9 PM.
Compare that with summer, when the pool opened at 11 AM Tuesday through Saturday and at noon on Sundays and Mondays, closing at 8:30 PM. Weekday afternoons now start at 3 PM, so a Tuesday visit is an after-school or after-work swim, not an all-day one. Weekends are where the long stretches are: noon to 9 PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The last day of the Off Season is Sunday, December 13.
Weather is the one thing the schedule can't promise. The pool posts closures on Instagram at @alamoheightspool, so check there before you load the car on a gray or windy day.
What a week looks like
The weekly lineup at the pool is built around the grill and the courts as much as the water.
- Tuesday through Thursday: happy hour at POOLSIDE, 3 to 7 PM.
- Thursday: pasta night at the grill, then league pickleball from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.
- Friday: fajitas and ritas, with beef, chicken or a combo.
- Saturday: college football on every TV.
- Tuesday and Thursday mornings: Aqua Aerobics, 9:30 to 10:30 AM, through October 29.
Aqua Aerobics is the one item here that doesn't require a membership. The classes are open to non-members, which makes them a good way to bring a neighbor along. The last class of 2026 is Thursday, October 29, so this week is the final chance.
Pickleball doesn't take the season off
The lighted Courtside courts stay available all through the Off Season, and there are still no court fees. You reserve a time on the member portal, and play is held to one-hour slots when other people are waiting. A cooler evening is honestly a good time to be on a court: you can play hard without the afternoon heat. Thursday league night runs 5:30 to 8:30 PM, and the pasta night at the grill is right there when you're done.
Making a cool-weather swim work
Texas evenings in November can cool off quickly once the sun drops, so the main skill of the Off Season is staying comfortable between swims. A few things that help in any outdoor pool this time of year:
- Bring two towels, and keep one dry in your bag for the walk back to the car.
- Pack a hooded sweatshirt or a robe you can pull on the moment you're out of the water.
- Plan your swim for the stretch before sunset, then switch to the grill or the courts as the light fades.
- Dry clothes for everyone, including socks and shoes, make the ride home a lot happier.
Members can also reserve lap lanes daily, which suits a steady swimmer who'd rather keep moving than linger at the edge. If you aren't sure how a particular day will feel, call the pool at (210) 824-2595 and ask.
Next door and open to everyone
Kellyanne Park sits beside the pool, and its concession, POOLSIDE (in the Park), is open to everyone with no membership. In October it runs free ice cream on Tuesday from 5 PM while it lasts, kids eat free with an adult entree on Wednesday, and Thursday is movie night on the lawn with 20% off appetizers from 4 to 7 PM. On Saturday, November 14, from 11 AM to 6 PM, the 1st Annual Alamo Heights Chili Cook-Off takes over the park and the pool's parking lot. It's free, and there's live music and a cornhole tournament.
What it costs, and what comes next
Off Season passes are priced lower than summer ones. A Family Pass with up to four kids is $579, a Married Couple Pass is $449, and a Single Pass is $359. Guests are $10 per adult and $5 per kid, up to six per day. There are no day passes, so a pass is how you get in. If you bought the Early Bird Special, your summer guest passes roll over to the Off Season.
Owners Clayton and Stacy also wrote that how many people join the Off Season will help decide whether the pool offers an early-spring membership. In their words, they'd like to make it "as close to a year-round opportunity as possible."
The full schedule is on the Hours & Events page, and passes and pricing are on the Memberships & Passes page. Questions go to (210) 824-2595 or info@heightspool.com.
