Saved by The Pool Guy

The city-run pool was set to be filled in.

Thirty-four years ago, Rick Shaw, known to everyone as “The Pool Guy”, saved it. He had swum here as a boy, and in the summer of 1990 the pool reopened, repainted and upgraded.

Today his daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Clayton Smaistrla, carry on his legacy with the same passion and community spirit. Generations have grown up here: Pool Shark ribbons, Fourth of July coin dives, cannonball contests, and ice cream under the Texas sun.

It’s not just a pool. It’s the neighborhood’s gathering place. Read the story since 1948
